The main wood in this piece is California Buckeye Burl. The specimen is a root structure and envelopes rocks and dirt as it grows. The free-form twisting movement contrasts the progressive stack of dyed wood spheres. This sculpture represents resurrection and ascension as a once-living underground being is brought back to life. The spheres hint astronomy as a distant power descends into earth to arise the form.
Hidden fasteners firmly join the spheres together and to the burl.
