This has been one of my favorite forms over the last couple years.
Birch wood, being very blonde in color, accepts dyeing superbly. Thin layers are soaked in a water based dye, followed by laminating. The sculpture is designed to reveal patterns that compliment the form.
The finishing product upon this piece is a UV resistant urethane, much like automotive clear coat. The base is lathe-turned steel, tinted black and clear coated.
