My "Gear Series" was inspired by my strong interest in two opposite things; lively, flowing movements in nature, and industrial shapes designed for motion/power transfer. The harmonization and balance of these two subjects creates a striking sculptural concept.
Beginning with a steel wire, a winding form is shaped. A single board of figured maple wood is then cut into pieces, laminated in two layers, then drilled and slid upon the wire. The base is made of solid lathe-turned steel, making this piece very stable.
