In the woodworking world, "figure" refers to the washboard appearance created by grain distortion due to immense compression in that portion of the tree during its life, usually in the lower trunk region. The wood shows a shimmering iridescence when moved. It is incredible! This sculpture is made from one piece, cut in half and rejoined. They are held slightly separate from each other, supported individually at the stone base.
